Fig: Hall view of participants ready for free screening against NCDs at Dylet Bible School -Biyemassi Yaounde
We’re thrilled to share the success of The Mercy Azoh-Mbi Heart Foundation’s recent Heart Health Sensitization and Screening Campaign at the Dylet Bible School and Church in Biyemassi-Yaoundé. On June 21, 2025, we brought vital heart health awareness and services directly to the community.
Our mission was clear: to educate, detect, and empower. We provided interactive health talks on essential topics like hypertension, healthy eating, physical activity, and lifestyle modifications. Following these discussions, we offered FREE on-site screenings for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and blood sugar levels, helping to identify individuals at risk.
A total of 68 community members participated, ranging from 6 to 74 years old! We discovered that 41% of participants had elevated blood pressure, highlighting the critical need for continued awareness and early detection. It was particularly significant to find a 14-year-old with grade 2 hypertension, underscoring that heart health is important at all ages.
We extend a huge thank you to our incredible team of five medical student volunteers and two volunteers from the Bible school who made this event possible.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many participants shared their gratitude for the free screenings and valuable health information, with some noting it was their first time having these vital checks. This campaign truly showed the pressing need for more health outreach, especially in underserved areas.
We’re committed to continuing our efforts in promoting heart health and building a healthier community. Stay tuned for more initiatives.
